Common questions before you request quotes
How do I get auto insurance quotes?
Enter your ZIP code and answer a few short questions about your vehicle, the drivers on the policy, and your current coverage. We pass those details to licensed carriers, agents and marketing partners who write auto insurance in your state so they can prepare quotes for you. There is no cost to use the service and no obligation to buy.
What information do I need to get an auto insurance quote?
Most quotes start with the year, make and model of your vehicle, the address where it is kept, the date of birth of each driver, and whether you are insured today. You may also be asked about recent accidents, violations, and the coverage limits you want. Answering accurately matters, because an insurer will verify your driving record and vehicle history before a final rate is issued.
What auto insurance coverage do I actually need?
Nearly every state requires a minimum amount of liability coverage, and some also require uninsured motorist or personal injury protection. Collision and comprehensive coverage are optional under state law but are usually required by a lender or leasing company while you are financing a vehicle. A licensed agent can explain the requirements that apply where you live and what each coverage does.
Why do auto insurance rates differ so much between companies?
Every insurer uses its own underwriting and rating rules, so the same driver can be quoted very different prices. Common factors include your driving record, the vehicle you drive, how much you drive, where you park it, the limits and deductibles you choose, and, in states that permit it, a credit based insurance score. That variation is the reason it pays to request quotes from more than one company.
Will getting quotes affect my credit score?
Insurers that use credit information for quoting generally do so through a soft inquiry, which does not affect your credit score. If you want to know exactly what a particular company checks and how it uses that information, ask the agent or carrier before you complete an application.
Are you an insurance company?
No. We are not an insurer or an insurance agency. We do not issue policies, bind coverage, set rates, or give insurance advice. We connect you with licensed carriers, agents and marketing partners who do, and any policy you buy is a contract between you and that company.
