Health Insurance FAQs

Common questions before you request quotes

How do I get health insurance quotes?

Enter your ZIP code and answer a few short questions about your household, your income range, and whether you have coverage today. We pass those details to licensed carriers, agents and marketing partners who offer health plans in your state so they can follow up with options. There is no cost to use the service and no obligation to buy.

What information do I need to request a health insurance quote?

Expect to be asked your date of birth, your gender, how many people are in your household, your expected annual income range, whether you are currently insured, and whether you have had a major life event recently or have a major health condition. An agent or carrier will usually ask more detailed questions before enrolling you in a plan.

Why do you ask about household size and income?

Many health plans, including those sold through the federal and state marketplaces, base eligibility and any premium assistance on household size and income. Sharing a range helps the providers we connect you with point you toward plans you may qualify for. You are only asked for a bracket, not an exact figure.

Can I buy health insurance outside the open enrollment period?

Marketplace plans and most individual plans can generally be purchased only during the annual open enrollment period, unless you have a qualifying life event such as losing other coverage, getting married, having a baby, or moving. Some other types of coverage may be available year round. A licensed agent can explain what applies where you live.

Will a pre-existing condition affect my application?

Under federal law, plans sold on the individual market cannot deny coverage or charge you more because of a pre-existing condition. Some other products, such as short-term plans, follow different rules. Ask the agent or carrier which rules apply to the plan you are considering before you enroll.

Are you an insurance company?

No. We are not an insurer or an insurance agency. We do not issue policies, bind coverage, set rates, or give insurance advice. We connect you with licensed carriers, agents and marketing partners who do, and any plan you buy is a contract between you and that company.
